What is missing from the New Outlook for Mac software application?
One of the main features of the legacy version of Outlook for Mac was the ability to support the import and the export of PST files and the ability to import a Microsoft Outlook .OLM file, which gave Microsoft Legacy Outlook for Mac the ability to work with local email messages and local calendars and local contacts, with the current version of Outlook for Mac which is 16.109 as of the 18th of May 2026 this feature is missing as the option for import and export is in grey, Microsoft has said that’s the import and export option might become available, but for most people using Microsoft Outlook for Mac, emails should be hosted online.
Why use Apple Mac Mail vs Microsoft Outlook for Mac?
If you have just one GMail account and of one Microsoft Outlook or a Microsoft Exchange account and you do not have a high number of email messages like over 10,000 then Apple Mac Mail works fine especially if you need to use some of the key macOS features like the share options, and or if you need to work with Apple Photos for Mac or work with Apple iCloud email accounts, then Apple Mac Mail can be better to use, and also if you use an Apple iPhone of Apple iPad you can of course start to compose a email messages on an iPhone, iPad and then continue composing the email message on a Apple Mac computer.
Apple Mac Mail also has the option to import and export emails to a file called a Mailbox file so you can store long term emails on an external storage device or even online via iCloud or with another cloud storage service, but you cannot open to use the Mailbox file, only open the file.
Microsoft Outlook for Mac and Calendar Support – Microsoft Teams Calendar
If you use Microsoft 365 and especially if you use Microsoft Teams for meetings and you need to use Calendars, then by using Microsoft Outlook for Mac with a Teams calendar seems to work better than trying to get Apple Mac Calendar software to work with Microsoft Teams Calendar.
If you have an Apple iCloud Calendar and also a Microsoft Outlook Calendar via outlook.com or via Microsoft Exchange then you might find that the Microsoft Outlook for Mac Calendar works better than trying to use Apple Mac Calendar with a Microsoft account.
If you only use an Apple iCloud Calendar account then you can use either Microsoft Outlook for Mac Calendar or use Apple Mac Calendar on your Apple Mac computer.
